A 77-year-old man was viciously grabbed from behind and stabbed around 12.45pm while out on Tynedale Road. The pensioner had simply popped to the shops when the brutal attack happened.

Quick Arrest and Charges Laid
Police acted fast, arresting 27-year-old Asim Hussain from Broadstone Road, Lea Hall. Last night, he was charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in public.
Suspect to Face Court This Morning
Hussain is due to appear at Magistrates’ Court today at 1pm via video link from custody.
