Teen Charged Over Brutal Reading Attack Outside CEX

A 16-year-old boy from Reading, arrested on 5 January, has been charged with serious crimes.

On Wednesday 14 April, he faced charges including Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent, robbery, and three counts of attempted robbery. He’s been bailed to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on 5 May.

Co-Accused Jan Watroba Also Charged

Jan Watroba, 20, from Zinzan Street, Reading, arrested on 15 January, was charged on 14 April with three counts of attempted robbery. He is due to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on 9 June.

Violent Attack Sparks Charges

The charges relate to a terrifying incident on Sunday 13 December. A group of friends were walking along Friar Street when two attackers approached them outside the CEX shop.

  • A 17-year-old boy was separated from his mates and forced to walk to Victoria Park.
  • There, he was brutally assaulted, suffering serious eye, facial, and arm injuries that needed hospital treatment.
  • The rest of the group were threatened, with demands to hand over their bags.

Police continue to investigate this violent robbery attempt that left one teenager seriously hurt.
