Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police are probing a shocking crash between a black Mercedes Sprinter van and an 84-year-old man on Ruby Road, Southampton. The smash happened just after 10:15am on Saturday, December 23.

84-Year-Old Left Seriously Injured

The elderly pedestrian suffered multiple broken bones and other serious injuries. Emergency crews rushed him to Southampton General Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition. Medics say his injuries are severe, but he is holding firm.

Driver Arrested, Then Released as Probe Continues

Police arrested a 66-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and driving under the influence of controlled drugs. Though he has since been released from custody, officers say the investigation is far from over.
