Cop Fired Without Warning Over Shocking Far-Right Social Media Activity
PC Gus Mirams Axed After Misconduct Hearing
PC Gus Mirams, who served at the Central West Command Unit, has been sacked without notice following a serious misconduct hearing. The officer faced multiple allegations that he breached the police’s Standards of Professional Behaviour.
Far-Right Links and Offensive Comments
Back in July 2018, while off duty, Mirams reportedly “liked” and commented on posts in a Facebook group tied to the extremist far-right group Britain First. He also allegedly made offensive remarks online about police officers participating in Pride events.
Breaking Rules On Restricted Duties
On 15 July 2019, Mirams, who was supposed to be on restricted duties, broke protocol by attending a public gallery to watch an unrelated misconduct hearing. During this, he is said to have made homophobic and racist comments in front of two members of the public and a security guard.
Gross Misconduct Confirmed
The misconduct panel found Mirams guilty of breaches including Authority, Respect & Courtesy, Equality & Diversity, Orders & Instructions, and Discreditable Conduct. His behaviour was described as abusive, oppressive, and offensive — failing to show fairness or respect to communities.
The panel ruled all allegations as proven gross misconduct, leading to Mirams’ immediate dismissal without notice.
