Eight Burglaries Spark Police Hunt in Portsmouth and Fareham
Police are probing whether a string of eight burglaries across Portsmouth and Fareham are connected. The raids hit seven properties between Thursday 12 July and Wednesday 18 July on Dysart Avenue, Station Road, Mulberry Lane, Court Lane, Central Road, Old Manor Way, and South Road in Drayton.
Daytime Break-Ins Through Windows and Back Doors
Most of the break-ins happened in broad daylight, between 8am and 2pm. Thieves slipped in through unsecured windows or forced entry at the rear of homes. In two cases, burglars climbed onto porchways and gained access via upstairs bathroom windows.
Priceless Jewellery Among Stolen Goods
Stolen items include jewellery and watches such as a silver pocket watch with a long Albert chain, a Birmingham 1961 silver bangle, and a 9ct gold ring engraved with “RCJ” and “RACS.
Burglary Interrupted by 85-Year-Old Woman
On South Road, an elderly woman aged 85 startled a burglar just after midday on Tuesday 17 July. She described the suspect as:
- White
- About 18 years old
- Tall and skinny
- Wearing a baseball cap and light blue t-shirt
The thief had entered through an unsecured window but fled towards Grove Road when disturbed.
More Jewellery and Cigarettes Stolen in Fareham
The spree continued on Thursday 19 July, when a home in Downsway, Fareham, was broken into between 7am and 2:15pm. The culprit gained entry via an upstairs bathroom window and stole jewellery alongside a quantity of cigarettes.
Police urge residents to secure windows and report any suspicious activity immediately.
