Man Found Dead in Surbiton Park – Police Probe Homicide
Police are hunting for answers after a 39-year-old man was found critically injured in Surbiton’s Fishponds Park and later died from head wounds. Lee Styles was discovered just before 3pm on Wednesday, 18 December, prompting a murder investigation.
Tragic Death Sparks Major Inquiry
Emergency services rushed Lee to hospital after finding him with serious head injuries. He sadly passed away the following afternoon on 19 December. A post-mortem confirmed head injuries as the cause of death.
Detectives Launch Urgent Appeal
Homicide detectives took over the case on 27 December, with Detective Chief Inspector Justin Howick leading the probe. He said:
“We believe Lee was assaulted. We are piecing together the circumstances surrounding his death and need anyone with information to come forward.”
DCI Howick urged locals and park users to recall anything unusual from that afternoon. He added:
“If you were near Fishponds Park on 18 December or saw Lee in the area, please get in touch. Even small details could be crucial.”
Two Arrested but Released on Bail
An 18-year-old and a 41-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder. Both have been released on bail pending further inquiries due in January.
