Chaos in Southport: 53 Police Injured in Night of Violence
Merseyside Police have revealed the full scale of a violent rampage that tore through Southport late on Tuesday, July 30. A staggering 53 officers were hurt, including eight seriously injured, as rioters unleashed havoc on the streets. Public property was smashed, and even police dogs were caught up in the outrage.
Police Face Brutal Assaults, Dogs Also Victims
Officers from Merseyside and Lancashire Police were met with fierce hostility during the disorder. Of the 53 injured, 49 were from Merseyside Police and four from Lancashire. Injuries ranged from fractures and deep cuts to suspected broken noses and concussions. Some officers suffered severe facial trauma, head wounds, and one was knocked out cold.
Three police dogs were also targeted. Police Dog Zoe needed stitches for a nasty leg cut, PD Ike had a cut mouth and swollen leg, and PD Quga suffered burns to her back leg. Only PD Repo escaped injury thanks to its quick-thinking handler, who kicked away a lit petrol can.
Community Rallies to Restore Order and Support Police
Despite the chaos, the show’s ‘local community and partner agencies, including Sefton Council, sprang into action. Volunteers armed with hoses and brushes cleaned the streets, while donations of food for officers and dog food for the injured police animals poured in.
Four Arrests Made – Police Hunt More Suspects
