Prison Staff Demand Tasers After Convicted Terrorist’s Brutal Attack!

Frontline Prisoners Face Deadly Violence

The Prison Officers Association (POA) is gearing up for a high-stakes showdown with the Justice Secretary this Wednesday. They’re demanding frontline staff be armed with Tasers after convicted Manchester Arena bomber Hashem Abedi violently attacked three officers at HMP Frankland in County Durham.

The attack left one officer seriously injured and sent shockwaves through the UK’s prison system. The POA calls the assault a “wake-up call” and urges the government to bolster safety in the nation’s toughest jails.

“Tasers Needed to Protect Officers”

Steve Gillan, POA General Secretary, revealed the union’s main agenda for the meeting: demanding Tasers for prison staff. Currently, officers are unarmed and vulnerable, relying on radios, alarms, and physically restraining violent inmates.

“Our members are not armed police, but they deal with some of the most dangerous individuals in the country,” Gillan said. “Tasers would offer a vital line of defence in life-threatening situations.”

With terrorists and organised crime figures behind bars, the POA warns that the current toolkit is simply not enough to keep prison officers safe.

Government Holds Cards Close

The Ministry of Justice has remained tight-lipped on whether they will greenlight Tasers for prisons. A spokesperson said the Justice Secretary is “looking forward to a constructive discussion” with the POA.

This comes against a backdrop of rising concern over prison overcrowding, violent incidents, and staffing shortages that have left the system on the brink.

Probe Underway into Weapon Smuggling

An internal investigation is probing how Abedi managed to launch the unprovoked attack. Sources suggest he may have used a makeshift weapon, sparking fresh alarm about security breaches in high-security prisons.

The POA promises a formal statement after Wednesday’s meeting. Meanwhile, anyone with concerns about prison officer safety is urged to contact the POA or contribute to the Ministry of Justice’s ongoing review into prison violence.
