Prisoner Blackmails Inmate to Fork Out Thousands
A prisoner at HMP Littlehey pulled off a chilling money grab by blackmailing a fellow inmate into transferring thousands of pounds into his mother’s bank account. Kamran Khan, 39, started his sinister scheme back in 2018 after learning about an attack on the victim’s son near his workplace.
Threats and Intimidation Inside The Prison Walls
The victim, a man in his 40s, hadn’t told anyone about the assault when Khan approached him. Khan coldly warned: fork over £2,000 or his son would face another attack. The man reluctantly transferred the cash to Budar Mehmood, Khan’s 62-year-old mother, using the bank details given to him.
The threats didn’t stop there. By October 2018, Khan was back demanding £5,000 more. This time, he menaced the victim by saying his wife would be targeted if he refused to pay up. When the victim asked for more time, Khan turned up the pressure with intimidation tactics.

Khan, already serving eight years for indecent assault and false imprisonment, denied the blackmail charges but was found guilty at Cambridge Crown Court last November. Mehmood also denied acquiring criminal property but was convicted too.
On 20 May, Peterborough Crown Court handed Khan an extra two years and ten months behind bars. Mehmood got an 18-month community order with a 30-day rehabilitation requirement.
Detective Blows The Whistle On Khan’s Intimidation
DC John Whitworth said: “Khan used intimidation as he attempted to exploit the victim for his own financial gain. The victim in this case was terrified about the consequences of not complying. He only felt able to come forward when he confided in another prisoner who persuaded him to speak out about what had happened.”
