A habitual shoplifter’s craving for sweets got him caught red-handed. Ryan Brook, 34, was spotted strolling down the street with a shopping basket packed full of share bag sweets worth £82.55. The brazen candy raid unfolded at a 1 Express store in Bexleyheath on January 23, 2024.
Busted for More Than Just Candy
Brook’s cheeky snack swipe wasn’t his only crime. Alongside stealing sweets, he was also charged with assaulting a man and failing to comply with a drug test. His triple trouble landed him in hot water — and in court fast.

Metropolitan Police Service officers in Welling nabbed Brook on patrol, catching him red-handed with his sugary loot. An MPS spokesperson said:
“Officers on mobile patrol apprehended a prolific shoplifter casually strolling down the road with a shopping basket filled to the brim with share bag sweets.”
The spokeperson added:
“Ryan Brook was arrested, charged, and remanded to court, where he received a 12-week prison sentence.”
Brook also faced charges related to assaulting shop staff during the theft and breaching a drug test order, sealing his fate.
