Coventry Woman Jailed Over Illegal Kitten Breeding Horror
Monika Listos from Holbrooks, Coventry, has been slammed with a 20-week jail sentence and a lifetime animal ban after authorities uncovered multiple litters of sickly, underage kittens living in a rundown property.
Shocking Conditions at Empty Home
RSPCA inspectors raided Listos’ Lillington Road address in Wood End on April 27, 2019, after 46 public complaints. Inside, they found 18 kittens from three separate litters cramped in a barely furnished living room. One kitten was so weak it wasn’t moving at all.
The tiny kittens, some just four or five weeks old — far too young to be taken from their mother — were rushed to vets. Tragically, the smallest died overnight. A dozen others contracted deadly feline parvovirus and also perished.
Profit Over Pets: Illegal Sales on Gumtree
Listos, tied to disgraced breeder Lizzie Scarrott exposed by BBC Watchdog in 2018, was caught buying kittens advertised online and flipping them for profit on Gumtree. Despite the suffering, she ran a separate ragdoll kitten breeding business.
Justice Served
“Listos pleaded guilty and must repay over £10,000 in costs and charges,” said RSPCA officials. “These poor animals deserved better.”
The remaining six kittens were rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed by the RSPCA Coventry and District Branch.
