A Ramsgate man who robbed a woman just hours after she kindly gave him food has been locked up for more than two years.
Victim Shocked as Burglar Returns and Breaks In
On Saturday, 16 February 2019, 41-year-old Simon Elliott visited a woman he knew in Cliftonville Avenue, Ramsgate. They shared some food and drink before Elliott left.
But later that night, Elliott came back, calling out at the front door. Moments later, the woman heard noises inside her home. When she checked, she found her front door wide open and her purse with cash and cards gone.
Pot Plant Clue Leads Police to Burglary Suspect
She noticed a window had been used to sneak inside, with a pot plant moved to gain entry. Outside, she spotted the bags Elliott had carried earlier.
Kent Police investigation revealed Elliott’s fingerprints on the displaced pot plant. He was swiftly arrested.
Jail Time For Mean-spirited Crime
Elliott, from Clements Road, Ramsgate, pleaded guilty to burglary. On Thursday 1 August 2019, Canterbury Crown Court sentenced him to roughly two years and four months (876 days) behind bars.
“Elliott’s offending is aggravated by the fact he chose to repay the kindness the victim showed to him by stealing her money and bank cards,” said Detective Constable Richard Cordery. “His offending was mean-spirited and I hope he uses his time in prison to consider his actions.”
