Skip Lorry Driver Loses Licence After Violent Road Rage Attack

Kevin Griggs has had his operator’s licence stripped and banned from holding one for at least a year. His vocational driving licence has also been suspended for the same period, following a public inquiry with Deputy Traffic Commissioner Nick Denton.

Road Rage Incident Ends in Violence

Griggs was involved in a minor collision at a roundabout. Instead of backing off, he forced the other vehicle off the road at the exit. Then, shockingly, he leapt out of his cab wielding a table leg like a weapon. He threatened the other driver aggressively and even struck him on the back with the table leg before speeding off dangerously, putting other road users at risk.

Criminal Convictions and Lies Exposed

At Snaresbrook Crown Court, Griggs was convicted of assault by beating, possession of an offensive weapon in public, using threatening behaviour, and driving without due care. He picked up 4 penalty points and a string of suspended jail sentences, plus 100 hours of community service. Astonishingly, he failed to inform the traffic commissioner of these convictions.

During the hearing, police video footage slammed Griggs’ conflicting claims, branding him an unreliable witness.

Traffic Commissioner Hits Out

“The incident was of an exceptionally serious and shocking nature. The public have a right to drive on the road without an operator using his skip lorry to force another vehicle to stop in a wholly inappropriate location causing danger to other road users. Other road users should not be subject to the abuse and violence dealt out by Mr Griggs, no matter what the excuse … The inescapable conclusion is that Kevin Roy Griggs is not fit to hold an operator’s licence.” – Deputy Traffic Commissioner Nick Denton
