Liam Turner, 28, from Spencer Road, Reading, has been convicted of murder after a vicious assault that left Miroslaw Januszkiewicz dead. The unanimous jury verdict came today (11 February) at Reading Crown Court, following a chilling 2018 attack.
Random Attack in Early Hours
At around 2.40am on Tuesday 10 April 2018, Mirek Januszkiewicz, 42, was walking along the A329 in Bracknell when Turner pulled up in his car. After a brief verbal exchange, the victim tried to walk away. But Turner followed him, got out, and launched a brutal assault causing catastrophic head injuries.
Mirek was found near the BP garage on London Road and rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital, where he tragically died the next day. The post-mortem confirmed death was due to the severe head injuries sustained.
Quick Police Action
- Turner was arrested on 11 April 2018, first on suspicion of attempted murder.
- He was re-arrested for murder the same day following Mirek’s death.
- He was charged with murder on 13 April 2018.
Justice for Mirek
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Howard called the attack “shocking” and “completely random.”
“Mirek didn’t know his attacker and was just trying to go about his business. Turner followed him, carried out a prolonged attack, then drove off and left him for dead,” said DCI Howard.
“We heard graphic details in court of this unprovoked and needless killing. I thank Mirek’s family for their strength and support throughout this investigation. Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.”
Turner is set to be sentenced tomorrow (12 February) at Reading Crown Court.
