Crackdown on Uninsured Drivers Kicks Off This Week
From Monday 15 November to Sunday 21 November 2021, police will zero in on uninsured vehicles as part of the hard-hitting Op Drive Insured.
Alarming Toll from Uninsured Driving
Each year, uninsured and untraced drivers cause devastation on UK roads. A shocking 130 people die and 26,000 are injured in collisions involving these drivers. That’s a casualty every 20 minutes. Even worse, one in five crashes involves an uninsured or untraced vehicle.
Police Warning: Don’t Gamble with Uninsured Driving
“The use of uninsured vehicles causes an increased risk of harm to our communities,” says Roads Policing Chief Inspector Craig West.
“If you crash into an uninsured driver, you’ll often pick up the tab — losing your no-claims bonus and paying out of pocket for insurance excess.
“Uninsured drivers are often tied to other crimes. We want these risky vehicles off our streets now.”
“Officers seize uninsured cars daily. We can check insurance status quickly. Drivers caught face six penalty points and a £300 fine. There’s even a risk your car will be crushed.”
“Our message is simple: if your vehicle isn’t insured, don’t drive.”
