Darlington Duo Jailed for Horrific Toddler Abuse
A sick couple from Darlington have been locked up for terrifying child abuse that nearly killed a toddler. Craig Neill, 26, and Amy Cave, 21, inflicted devastating injuries including a traumatic brain injury and broken wrists. The court blasted their “sadistic behaviour.”
Tot Found with Life-Threatening Injuries
Emergency crews rushed to a Teesside home on May 26 after reports of an unresponsive toddler. They found the child covered in severe bruises, burns on the hand, a fractured jaw, and broken wrists. The injuries were terrifyingly painful and could have killed the little one.
Couple Convicted After Court Drama
Neill and Cave faced charges of causing or allowing serious physical harm. Both pled not guilty but were convicted at Teesside Crown Court. Prosecutor Jolyon Perks revealed Neill caused most of the injuries. Neill showed no remorse, refusing to answer questions, while both denied responsibility.
Jail Sentences Handed Down
Judge Jonathan Carroll sentenced Neill to 14 years, with 13 behind bars. Cave was sentenced to 10 years. Defenders cited mental health issues and toxic relationships, but the jury showed no sympathy.
Detective Sergeant Melissa Lamb from Darlington Safeguarding Team said: “The child, now two, was discharged from hospital this summer and is thankfully making a good recovery despite everything endured. The actions of paramedics and police undoubtedly saved this child’s life.”
“Neill and Cave’s actions are unforgivable. Instead of owning up, they lied to try and save themselves. I urge anyone concerned about child welfare to report it – your actions could save a life.”
This shocking case has rocked the community and put a harsh spotlight on child protection and justice for brutal abuse victims.
