Salisbury Man Jailed for Ploughing Into Pedestrian and Ramming Police Car

A 33-year-old from Salisbury has been slammed with a nearly seven-year jail sentence after deliberately crashing into a man and later attacking a police vehicle in a high-speed chase.

Deliberate Attack Leaves Man with Broken Leg

Ashley Sherred, of Southampton Road, Salisbury, showed no mercy when he drove a blue Ford Fiesta recklessly through Pinewood Close, Bemerton Heath, on 10 May 2025. Witnesses saw him spinning wheels and doing handbrake turns, causing chaos in the quiet street.

When a local man in his 40s confronted him, Sherred mounted the pavement and deliberately hit the pedestrian. The victim suffered a broken leg and was rushed to hospital.

Sherred absconded but was caught later by Wiltshire Police. His car was recovered the next day.

Ruthless Police Chase Ends with Car Ramming

That wasn’t Sherred’s only run-in with the law. On 31 August 2024, Salisbury City Watch CCTV caught him dangerously driving a Honda CR-V down Milford Street.

Ignoring police orders to stop, he led officers on a reckless pursuit through Fisherton Street, Bemerton Heath, and Wilton. Sherred collided with a fence and even drove the wrong way down a one-way street.

The chase ended at Dairyhouse Bridge Caravan Site, where Sherred reversed into a police car multiple times before fleeing on foot over a barbed wire fence. He was quickly tracked and arrested hiding nearby.

Police Slam “Violent and Reckless” Behaviour

“Sherred’s actions in Bemerton Heath left an innocent man with serious injuries. He used his car as a weapon,” stated Detective Constable Dan Smith of Wiltshire Police South CID.

“In the earlier Salisbury incident, he endangered both the public and police officers, driving recklessly and violently resisting arrest. We will not tolerate violence or dangerous driving in Wiltshire.”

Sherred pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving during two separate incidents. He was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court on Friday, 8 August 2025, to six years and ten months behind bars.

He was also banned from driving for four years starting from the date of his release.
