Predatory Paedophile Caught: Sussex Man Guilty of Historic Sex Crimes
A 65-year-old man is set to be sentenced after a jury found him guilty of historic sexual offences against a teenage girl in Sussex.
Paul Latham’s Trial at Hove Crown Court
Paul Latham, from Saltdean, denied three counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15, plus a charge of adult rape. But on November 18, the jury convicted him on two counts involving the underage girl. The rape charge was dismissed. One count remains live on file.
The offences date back to 2005 and were committed at addresses in Hove and Woodingdean. Latham was 47 at the time and knew the girl was underage.
Victim’s Courage Praised by Police
Detective Constable Lisa Hampson led the investigation, highlighting the victim’s bravery in coming forward in 2018. She said: “Latham is a predatory sex offender who preyed on a young teenage girl and has now faced justice. The victim showed extraordinary bravery and tenacity through a very difficult period.”
She added: “We worked tirelessly to secure this conviction. Victims of sexual offences will always be supported, and we take their reports seriously. We hope this case encourages others to come forward, no matter how long ago the offences occurred.”
Sentencing Scheduled for January
Latham, unemployed and living on Wicklands Avenue, Saltdean, will be sentenced on January 6, 2023.
