Stalker Jailed for Terrorising Chip Shop Worker

A fearless 20-year-old woman confronted her stalker in court after enduring a nightmare three-week harassment spree. The drama unfolded in Portsmouth, where the victim worked behind the counter of a local chip shop.

Harassment Starts with a Fake Cop

In early October 2017, the stalker, 36-year-old Terry Waymark, approached the victim posing as a police officer. He lingered in the shop for 20 minutes, staring and talking to her under false pretences. A fortnight later, the nightmare escalated when Waymark found her contact details on a business card and started bombarding her with creepy texts.

Late-Night Calls and Threats

The messages quickly turned sinister, with Waymark probing about her relationship status and calling her late at night, demanding meetings. He also threatened to return to her workplace, sending the victim into a spiral of fear.

Brave Woman Fights Back

On 26 October, the victim finally called in the authorities. PC Jon Simpson from Southampton Police praised her courage:

“The victim was left terrified by these sudden, unusual and inappropriate messages… Her fear quickly turned to courage when she contacted police and helped bring this menace to justice.”

Officers arrested Waymark just one day after the report, thanks to the victim’s detailed evidence.

Justice Served: Four-Year Jail Term

Following a jury trial, Waymark was convicted of stalking causing serious alarm. His Honour Judge Mousley QC said Waymark acted for personal gain and even took pleasure in forcing the victim to testify.

Waymark was jailed for four years and slapped with an indefinite restraining order.

Detective Chief Inspector Suzette Allcorn, Hampshire’s stalking lead, warned:

“Stalking is a crime of obsession. It’s isolating and distressing. We take these reports extremely seriously and work closely with partners to protect victims and stop offenders.”

This grim case underlines the real dangers of stalking—and celebrates the bravery of those who refuse to stay silent.
