Shoplifting Spree Ends in Arrests
Police in Sheerness have ramped up their fight against shoplifting, snapping up two suspects after a string of thefts across town. Several charges have been laid as officers hunt down the offenders hitting local businesses.
William Harris Busted for Multiple Thefts
Between Friday, 27 December 2024, and Wednesday, 8 January 2025, shop staff at three different High Street stores reported stolen goods including confectionery and laundry items. Cops arrested 55-year-old William Harris of The Broadway, Minster-on-Sea.
Harris faces three counts of theft, breaching a restraining order banning him from one shop, and failing to provide a drug test sample while in custody. He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 9 January and has been remanded to reappear next week.
Charlie Wicks Nabs Charges Over Shoplifting and Bike Theft
In another case, 34-year-old Charlie Wicks from Vincent Gardens, Sheerness, was arrested for multiple thefts in the town centre. Charges against Wicks include four counts of shoplifting linked to Iceland on 24 September, the Co-op between 29 September and 2 October 2024, and stealing a bicycle in Sittingbourne on 3 September.
Wicks has been remanded to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 10 January.
Police Step Up Fight Against Retail Crime
Chief Inspector Vanessa Foster said, “Our local officers have an excellent working relationship with those employed in the town’s shops and businesses. We remain determined to protect them from crime and will be relentless in our pursuit of those who choose to target them.”
Ongoing Efforts to Stop Shoplifting
Sheerness police are working closely with businesses to curb shoplifting and make sure offenders face the law. Authorities urge shops and shoppers to stay vigilant and report suspicious behaviour.
