Horror Hammer Attack: Son Locks Mum In, Wields Weapon in Shocking New Year Assault
Mark Shaw, 42, has been jailed for eight years after a brutal hammer attack on his own mother. The violent ordeal unfolded at his sheffield/" title="Sheffield" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Sheffield home on New Year’s Day, leaving her seriously injured and traumatised.
Locked In and Armed with a Hammer
Police arrived at Shaw’s Little Norton Avenue house on the morning of 1 January, only to be barred entry as he slammed doors and windows shut. Officers forced their way inside, discovering homemade barricades made from furniture.
Shaw confronted them wielding a hammer — forcing the police to deploy a Taser to bring the situation under control and protect everyone’s safety.
Mother Found Injured and Trapped
Investigations Officer Alyshea Sharp revealed the horror they found: “The victim, Shaw’s mother, was found in the living room underneath a sofa and other furniture strewn around her.”
She suffered serious swelling to her face and a bleeding head wound. Blood was everywhere — on her clothes, the furniture, and walls. The scene was one of mayhem.
Drugs, Booze and Brutality
Shaw later tested positive for cocaine. Police also found drug paraphernalia and an open bottle of Cognac in the living room.
Shaw admitted the Section 18 Wounding charge at Sheffield Crown Court on 28 May, and today was sentenced to eight years behind bars.
“This violent attack left his mother severely injured and requiring hospital treatment,” said Officer Sharp. “He admitted quickly, but that doesn’t change the fact his mother will carry the mental scars forever.”
