Nightclub Doorman Jailed for Brutal Assault Outside Dover Club
A licensed SIA doorman in Dover has been locked up for 20 months after violently restraining a man so harshly the victim lost consciousness.
Out of Line and Out of Control
Martin Feehan, 51, from Clarendon Street, Dover, attacked a man on 28 October 2018 outside a local nightclub. The victim, who had been out with friends, was asked to leave the club but tried to get back inside. While talking to door staff, he was pushed away and ripped another man’s jacket.
Unlawful Restraint Leads to Serious Injuries
Feehan then pinned the man down for 17 minutes, pressing his knee into the victim’s head. This brutal hold caused the man to lose, then regain, consciousness. When police arrived, the victim was shivering and suffering from head injuries.
Although Feehan was a nightclub doorman, he was not working that night but still wore his security badge, misleading the crowd.
Justice Served
Feehan pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Folkestone Magistrates Court. He was sentenced at 1 Crown Court on Monday, 27 January.
Detective Constable Kay Brown said: “Feehan went well beyond what would have been proper and proportionate restraint and could easily have left his victim more seriously injured. We work hard to tackle late-night violence in Kent’s towns and cities and will prosecute anyone who assaults another during an evening out.”
