Southampton Man Caught Trying to Chat Up ’13-Year-Old’ Online
Jordan Cavie, 28, from Southampton, pleaded guilty today at Southampton Crown Court for attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
Explicit Messages Spark Police Action
The charges relate to explicit messages Cavie sent over four days in September 2019. He believed he was chatting with a 13-year-old girl but was actually communicating with an undercover profile.
Police arrested Cavie at a Middle Road address on 17 November 2019 following their investigation.
Serious Offence, No Real Child Harm
Detective Constable Colin Haynes of SEROCU said: “Thankfully, no real children were in danger. However, Cavie committed a serious offence by believing he was communicating with a child.”
DC Angela Smith-Jones of the Internet Child Abuse Team added: “With social media so common among young people, it’s vital we stay alert to protect children from online predators.”
Stay Alert: Protect Children Online
If you’re concerned about a child’s behaviour or safety online or offline, speak to professionals who can offer support. Children may be at risk of sexual exploitation.
Parents should remind kids that online “friends” might not be who they say they are. Review the apps they use and ensure parental controls and privacy settings are up to date on all devices and social media platforms.
