New Laser Scanners Slash Road Closure Times in Surrey and Sussex
Nine state-of-the-art Trimble X7 laser scanners are set to revolutionise forensic collision investigations across Surrey and Sussex. Replacing outdated kit, all frontline Forensic Collision Investigation Unit (FCIU) vehicles will now be fitted with these cutting-edge devices.
Faster Scene Analysis, Quicker Justice
This upgrade means officers can get scanning gear to crash scenes instantly, cutting delays and drastically reducing road closures. It also allows the FCIU to handle multiple crash scenes at once – a game-changer for busy county roads.
Dan Pitcher, head of the FCIU, said: “We only get one chance to capture the evidence required from a scene, and it’s vital that we get it right. This new tech lets us collect data accurately and quickly, helping us deliver reports on time for court or inquests. Plus, it’s more cost-effective and eases the strain on motorists caught up in road closures.”
3D Scanning: The Future of Crash Investigation
Surrey Police and Sussex Police back 3D laser scanning as the fastest, most efficient way to gather exact crash evidence. The tech even allows investigators to “revisit” scenes virtually if new info crops up later.
Chief Inspector Pip Taylor added: “Investing in this top-notch technology shows our commitment to road safety and bringing offenders to justice. It also provides vital answers to families who’ve tragically lost loved ones on our roads.”
KOREC Delivers Next-Level Tech
The sale was brokered by KOREC’s Regional Director Barry Monk, who highlighted the power of the Trimble X7 combined with Forensic Reveal software. “This package lets Surrey and Sussex Police verify, analyse, and present crucial info to support legal cases,” he said.
With faster, smarter tech on hand, these counties are leading the way in collision investigation and keeping roads safer for all.
