Drug driver banned for three years after failing roadside test

Ryan Baverstock caught red-handed

Ryan Baverstock, 24, from Bowleymead, Eldene, was stopped by police on Groundwell Road, Swindon, on August 11 last year. He failed a roadside drug wipe test and was immediately arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

Cannabis found during search

Further searches led to Baverstock being arrested for possession of cannabis, a Class B controlled drug. He faced court charges for both drug driving and possession.

36-month driving ban and fines

Appearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on February 13, Baverstock pleaded guilty to all offences. He was disqualified from driving for three years, hit with a £150 fine, a £48 victim surcharge, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs.

Police issue stark warning

PC Brewster of the Roads Policing Unit said: “I hope this disqualification serves as a lesson to Baverstock that you should never get behind the wheel of a vehicle while under the influence of drink or drugs. Drink and/or drug driving are one of the fatal five offences – the five offences most likely to cause serious or fatal collisions on our roads.”
