Metford Man Jailed Over Shocking Child Abuse Chat Group
A man from Metford, Sydney, has been slammed with a 2-year and 3-month prison sentence for his role in an online chat group sharing vile child abuse material. The Newcastle Local Court handed down the sentence on 13 October 2023.
Operation Arkstone Cracks Down on Paedophile Network
The 47-year-old was busted as part of Operation Arkstone, a major child protection sting run by the Australian Federal Police (AFP). This crackdown targets predators exploiting vulnerable children and brings them to justice.
AFP officers swooped in on 9 March 2021, arresting the man at his home in Metford and seizing his mobile phone. The probe started after arresting another suspect in New Lambton Heights, who was caught sharing explicit images with the Metford man in a group chat. Details on the New Lambton Heights suspect are in a separate report.
Guilty Plea on Multiple Disturbing Charges
The Metford offender admitted to several serious charges, including using a carriage service to spread child abuse content to multiple people. He also pled guilty to inciting sexual touching of a child under 10 and other related offences.
He must serve his prison term, followed by a two-year good behaviour bond.
AFP Vows to Catch More Perverts Behind Child Abuse
“People who prey on vulnerable children will be caught and put before the courts,” said Detective Senior Constable Joanna Kolodziej.
Kolodziej highlighted the devastation such abuse causes victims and their families and firmly committed to hunting down offenders.
Since launching in February 2020, Operation Arkstone has identified 55 Australian child victims now safe from harm. It has charged 21 alleged offenders with a staggering 1,301 offences. The AFP continues to chase leads and dismantle this disgusting network.
