Former Teacher Jailed for Grooming Schoolboys and Getting One Pregnant

Rebecca Joynes Sentenced to Six and a Half Years

Rebecca Joynes, a 30-year-old ex-teacher, has been locked up for six and a half years after being found guilty of sexually abusing two schoolboys. The disturbing case was heard at Manchester Crown Court, revealing how Joynes groomed her victims from the age of 15 — even having a child with one of the teenagers.

How the Abuse Unfolded

Joynes started teaching at the high school in 2018 through the Teach First scheme, armed with a degree in sports and exercise science. Both boys sent flirty Snapchat messages, carefully hiding their secret chats from their parents.

One victim, dubbed Boy A, was taken shopping by Joynes, who bought him a luxury Gucci belt before the pair engaged in sexual activity at her Salford Quays flat. Despite already being suspended and on police bail, Joynes began a sexual relationship with the second boy, Boy B, who later became pregnant with her child.

Denials Fall Flat as Jury Finds Her Guilty

Joynes denied any underage sex. But the jury convicted her on six counts of sexual activity with a child, including two offences while she held a position of trust over the boys.

Senior Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor Jane Wilson branded Joynes a “sexual predator”. Chillingly, pupils had nicknamed her “Bunda Becky,” and Joynes admitted feeling “flattered” by attention from teenage boys.

Impact and Lifelong Consequences

The case sparked outrage over how vulnerable students were exploited by someone sworn to protect them. Joynes faces an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and must remain on the sex offenders register for life.

The victims’ bravery in coming forward has been praised by authorities, with the lasting impact of Joynes’ actions described as profound.
