Teen Charged with Murder of Billy Ripley in Hailsham

The Crown Prosecution Service has charged a 17-year-old boy from Hellingly with the murder of 20-year-old Billy Ripley. The tragic stabbing took place in Vicarage Field, Hailsham, on Thursday 29 August at around 6:20 PM.

Billy Ripley Dies at the Scene Despite Paramedics’ Efforts

Paramedics raced to the scene but were unable to save Billy Ripley, who was pronounced dead at once. His grieving family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.

Further Charges and Arrests in Ongoing Investigation

  • The 17-year-old defendant also faces a charge of possession of a bladed article in a public place and remains in custody. He is set to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 2 September.
  • A 20-year-old man from Hailsham was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder on Sunday 1 September and remains in police custody.
  • A 21-year-old woman from Hailsham was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but has since been released on conditional bail until 30 November.

Police Appeal for Witnesses as Community Remains on Edge

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell said:

“This has been a hugely distressing event, not only for Billy’s family and friends but for the entire community. I thank the public for their patience as our officers conduct enquiries.”

DCI Campbell added:

“Our officers will stay on patrol to reassure the community. If you have any information that could help the investigation, please come forward. You can submit details via our Major Incident Public Portal or by scanning the QR code provided.”
