A teenage boy and his nine-year-old sister have died after their e-scooter was slammed by a car in Pitsea, Essex. Roman Casselden, 16, and his sister Darcie suffered fatal head injuries in the horrific crash on the evening of February 1.
Crash Details and Investigation Underway
At the inquest opening in Chelmsford, coroner Michelle Brown confirmed the siblings were on a privately-owned e-scooter when they were struck by a vehicle driving east along Ashlyns near Stokefelde.

- Darcie was declared dead at 7:10 PM, Roman at 7:50 PM.
- Cause of death: traumatic head injuries pending further investigation.
- Their mother, Emma Casselden, formally identified the children.
Driver Arrested, Police Probe Continues
Essex Police confirmed two arrests linked to the crash: a woman has been bailed and a man is released under investigation. The driver suspected of offences was taken into custody.
“I would like to extend my personal sympathy given the very tragic circumstances,” said Coroner Michelle Brown.
The inquest is currently suspended amid the ongoing police inquiry and potential criminal charges, with a review scheduled in four months.

Essex Police urge anyone with dashcam footage or information from around 6:25 PM on February 1 near Ashlyns to come forward to assist the investigation.
