Teen Murdered in Shocking Sussex Party Stabbing

A 17-year-old boy, Charlie Cosser, has tragically died after being stabbed at a party in Warnham, Sussex. His attacker, Yura Varybrus, also 17, was convicted of murder and carrying a knife following a trial at Brighton Law Courts in May.

Tragic Night Turns Deadly

The fatal stabbing happened during a party on Marches Lane late on July 22. Despite emergency treatment, Charlie died on July 25, leaving his family shattered. His parents Martin and Tara, along with siblings Adam and Eloise, spoke of their heartbreak: “Our lives have been destroyed by the tragic and unnecessary loss of our son.”

Life Sentence for Teen Killer

On June 19, Judge Christine Henson KC lifted Varybrus’s anonymity and sentenced him to life behind bars, with a minimum of 16 years before parole. Charlie’s father Martin slammed the senseless crime: “The evil and cowardly act by Yura Varybrus deprived Charlie of a very bright and exciting future.”

Family Launches Knife Crime Charity

In memory of Charlie, his family set up “Charlie’s Promise” to fight knife crime. Martin vowed his son’s legacy would live on: “Charlie Cosser was a beautiful human being, and this world is a lot worse off without him.”

Police Warn Against Knife-Carrying

Detective Chief Inspector Kimball Edey, leading the investigation, urged the public to recognise the dangers of knives. “This would not have happened if a knife had not been taken to a party,” he said, highlighting how one small decision cost a young life and shattered many families.

Heartbreaking Farewell

In an emotional interview with Sussex Police, Martin Cosser recalled the agony of Charlie’s final moments. Nicknamed “Cheeks” as a baby, Charlie was stabbed four times. Martin’s words summed up the family’s pain: “I loved him more than words can say, and there I was, able to do nothing for him.”
