Brighton Teen Threatens Women with Death and Petrol Bombs
Brighton teenager Zaine Reid, 18, has been handed a suspended prison sentence after sending chilling threats to two 18-year-old women. Between 6 and 27 December last year, Reid bombarded the women with texts threatening to kill them, pay others to hurt them, and even petrol bomb their homes.
Violent Arrest Ends in Assault on Police
When officers arrived at Reid’s Sussex Terrace home on 27 December, he didn’t go quietly. Reid resisted arrest and assaulted two emergency workers. He was charged with multiple offences, including malicious communications, assaulting emergency workers, harassment involving fear of violence, and causing actual bodily harm.
Suspended Sentence and Restraining Order
At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 24 February, Reid was found guilty of assaulting emergency workers and pleaded guilty to malicious communications and harassment. He was acquitted of causing actual bodily harm.
On 10 March, the court sentenced Reid to 24 weeks in prison, suspended for 24 months, for the threats and harassment, plus an additional four weeks for assaulting the officers. A three-year restraining order was also imposed.
Police Praise Victims’ Bravery
PC Philip Peck applauded the two women for their bravery throughout the investigation. He condemned Reid’s “terrifying threats” and highlighted the courage of the police officers who faced assault while doing their duty.
