War Crimes Team Arrest Man Over Journalist’s 2000 Murder
Police have swooped on a 48-year-old man in Northamptonshire linked to the cold-blooded killing of journalist Mylvaganam Nimalarajan in 2000. The man was arrested on Tuesday, 22 February, by the Met Police War Crimes Team, part of the Counter Terrorism Command.
He faces charges under Section 51 of the International Criminal Court Act 2001. While he’s been released under investigation, the probe is far from over.
Family Supported as Investigation Continues
The victim’s family have been informed and are getting specialist support from officers. Police are urging anyone with info—especially members of the Sri Lankan community in the UK—to come forward.
Commander Richard Smith, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “This is a significant update in what is a sensitive, complex investigation. We urge anyone with information on Mr Nimalarajan’s murder to help bring justice to his family.”

The War Crimes Team: Fighting ‘No Safe Haven’ for War Criminals
The Met’s War Crimes Unit tackles the UK’s toughest cases involving war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity, and torture worldwide. They work closely with the Crown Prosecution Service and government bodies, including the Foreign Office, as part of the UK War Crimes Network.
These investigations often involve complex international inquiries and gathering evidence from overseas, making them lengthy but crucial fights for justice.
