Drunk Driver Jailed for Deadly Crash That Killed Pedestrian
Ryan Owen-Brewerton, 20, from Abingdon, was locked up for seven years today at Oxford Crown Court. He was also banned from driving for six and a half years, and must pass an extended test before getting behind the wheel again.
Fatal Crash on Ock Street
On the night of 7 July, Owen-Brewerton sped along Ock Street in a red BMW. He recklessly overtook other cars and was clocked doing 78mph in a 30mph zone. The carnage began when he struck 20-year-old pedestrian Kacper Grezeszek, who later died in hospital. Owen-Brewerton then crashed into a black Vauxhall Insignia.
Boozy and Reckless Behind The Wheel
Breath tests revealed Owen-Brewerton had 90 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath — more than double the legal limit of 35. He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and driving over the alcohol limit back in August.
Police Warn: Drink Driving Kills
“This was a horrific incident that once again highlights the dangers of drink driving and speeding,” said PC Mark Dunne from the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit.
“We work tirelessly to bring to justice those who think it is acceptable to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol and drive in excess of the speed limit, putting the lives of other road users in danger.”
“Even the smallest amount of alcohol can impair your ability to drive – it’s not worth the risk.”
“My thoughts remain with the family of Kacper Grezeszek, and hopefully the sentencing today can bring some form of closure for them.”
