Hordle Drink-Driver Jailed for Killing Teen Girl and Fleeing Crash

A Hordle man has been locked up for over four years after killing a 15-year-old girl while drunk behind the wheel—and then running from the scene.

Alexander McBride Sentenced for Deadly Crash

Alexander McBride, 34, of Sky End Lane, pleaded guilty to causing the death of Rebecca Marchant by careless driving while more than twice the legal alcohol limit. He was sentenced to four years and four months in jail, and banned from driving for five years and two months.

The tragedy unfolded on February 16 at 8.40pm. McBride lost control of his white Mercedes E350 Sport on Hordle Lane and slammed into a tree. Rebecca, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, died instantly.

Children Injured, Driver Flees

McBride’s 10-year-old daughter and 8-year-old niece were in the back and suffered minor injuries. After the crash, McBride fled on foot and was found hiding in a neighbour’s driveway, the court heard.

Toxicology tests revealed he was over twice the drink-drive limit and had cannabis in his system at the time.

Family and Police React to Sentence

“The sentencing today will never be enough to compensate for the decision he took that night to drink and drive,” said Rebecca’s family. “We can never forgive him for leaving her after the accident. His actions have left our family and friends devastated.”

“We thank the police for their respect and support through this terrible time. We now ask to grieve in private.”

PC Dave Mitchell added, “This tragic death was caused by McBride’s selfish choice to drink and drive. The message is clear: don’t drink and drive. If you do, stop before it’s too late. Report anyone you know taking the risk.”
