Hells Angels Euro Run Arrests Surge to 34 Across Surrey and Sussex
Crackdown on Offensive Weapons and Drugs
Police in Surrey and Sussex have ramped up their efforts at the Hells Angels Euro Run 2019, making 24 fresh arrests. That brings the total to 34 suspects detained for possession of offensive weapons and drug offences. Officers have been using stop and search powers extensively to root out concealed items.
Section 60 Order Extended Amid Heightened Security
On Wednesday night, Surrey and Sussex Police imposed a Section 60 order under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. This allows officers to stop and search anyone within a specified area. The order, initially temporary, has now been extended to run until 4am Saturday (June 1).
Suspects Charged and Sentenced
- 12 individuals charged: five Germans, three Hungarians, one Swiss, one French, one Czech, and one Greek.
- Seven appeared in court Friday, all handed suspended prison sentences.
- Five are set to appear in court Saturday.
- Three remain in custody.
- Others were either cautioned or released without charges.
Police Warning and Weekend Plans
Assistant Chief Constable Nev Kemp said: “We have been very clear with those attending the Hells Angels event, many from overseas, that we will not tolerate criminal and anti-social behaviour.”
“Our activities over the last few days have centred on keeping people safe, which is why I enforced the Section 60 order. The fact that seven people have now been sentenced, plus numerous arrests, justifies this action.”
“This weekend, especially Saturday, will be one of the busiest for both forces in the past year. We are out in force, ready to respond swiftly to any incidents.”
“We have well-prepared plans with officers across both counties plus mutual aid on standby.”
