Three Jailed After Car Rams Pavement in Brutal Handsworth Attack
Three men have been locked up following a shocking crash in Handsworth last July, where a car mounted the pavement and injured three pedestrians. The horrifying crash unfolded on Burton Wood Drive, leaving two teenagers and a woman in her 20s hospitalised.
High-Speed Crash Sparks Major Police Hunt
West Midlands Police confirmed that Kaiden Lemathy, Ismail Khan, and Mohammed Najeeb were sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on 15 December after a thorough investigation. The trio fled the scene in a Nissan Qashqai that had ploughed onto the pavement at speed.
The abandoned vehicle was found nearby. Police used CCTV footage and other evidence to identify Lemathy as the driver. The 18-year-old admitted to grievous bodily harm with intent, three attempts of the same, and dangerous driving. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and received a 15-year driving ban.
Extra Jail Time for Drugs and Firearms Charges
- Kaiden Lemathy also got an additional two years for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of a firearm.
- Mohammed Najeeb, 19, was sentenced to 2 years and 9 months after admitting attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
- Ismail Khan, 21, received four years for the same charge.
Motive Still a Mystery as Victims Recover
Though all three pleaded guilty, they refused to reveal why they targeted the victims. Police believe the attack was deliberate, but the reason remains unclear. Thankfully, the injuries sustained were not life-threatening, and all three pedestrians are now recovering.
