Snow-Free Roof Exposes Massive Cannabis Farm in Kirkby-in-Ashfield

While surrounding rooftops were blanketed in snow, one building in Kirkby-in-Ashfield stood out – completely clear of white. That unusual sight tipped off police to a large-scale cannabis operation inside, reeking with the unmistakable smell of drugs.

13 Rooms, 1,482 Cannabis Plants Found

Officers forced entry to the Chapel Street property in January and uncovered a sophisticated grow spanning 13 rooms with 1,482 plants. The setup included fans, ducting, sheeting, and even a CCTV system linked to the offenders’ phones – all designed to protect the illegal crop. The operation posed serious fire and safety risks to the building.

Three Men Jailed for Cannabis Production

  • Aurel Koltraka, 30
  • Ledion Subashi, 27
  • Kreshnik Batusha, 22

All with no fixed address, the trio were arrested at the scene on April 28, 2021, and later pleaded guilty. Nottingham Crown Court sentenced each to 14 months behind bars on May 28.

Police Praise Public Help in Drug Crackdown

“Our suspicions were raised when we noticed that there was no snow on the large three-storey building, despite all neighbouring houses being covered,” said Police Constable Luke Bettridge, who led the investigation.

“We acted swiftly because of the serious fire risk and damage the grow could cause. Getting these men off the streets helps reduce drugs in our communities. Drug offences will not be tolerated in Nottinghamshire – we will keep tracking offenders and bringing them to justice.”

“Drugs fuel crime and trap vulnerable people in misery. We urge the public to report suspicious activity by calling 101. Often, just one tip-off can be enough to lock someone up.”
