Sid Palmer Fatally Stabbed After Leicester Street Brawl

Sidney Anthony Palmer, known as Sid to family and friends, died from a single stab wound on the evening of Saturday 30 September last year. He passed away shortly after arriving at hospital.

Violent Altercation Spirals Out of Control

The chaos began around 6:15pm in Conduit Street, Leicester, when a heated dispute broke out involving Nathan Pritchard and another man. Shortly after, outside a London Road store, Pritchard was punched by an unknown assailant believed to be linked to the earlier fight.

At about 7pm, back on Conduit Street, Pritchard confronted the original man again and called Michael Berlin, who then issued threats. Victor-Eduard Raja was tipped off by Berlin and rushed to the scene.

Sid Tries to Break Up Fight – Ends Up Dead

Prosecutors say Raja was directed by Pritchard to attack an associate of the man from the initial row. CCTV footage shows Raja arriving and violently punching the victim. Sid Palmer, who was not involved, stepped in as a peacemaker and tried to pull Raja away.

But Raja pulled a knife and swung at Sid, missing the first blow. The second strike hit Sid hard in the chest, causing a fatal stab wound.

The suspects fled immediately as Sid was rushed to hospital where he died shortly afterward. A post-mortem confirmed the stab had penetrated his heart and lung.

Murder Investigation Leads to Arrests and Guilty Verdicts

  • Raja fled the scene via taxi and was later driven to Yorkshire by his mother, Diana Bodrug, who helped him hide using fake details and a new SIM card.
  • Police caught Raja at a separate address early on 5 October and charged him with murder. He remained silent during questioning.
  • Michael Berlin (31) and Nathan Pritchard (29) were charged with conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm shortly after Sid’s death. Later, Pritchard was charged with murder and Berlin with manslaughter.
  • Diana Bodrug (49) was charged with assisting an offender.

At trial in Leicester Crown Court, Raja was found guilty of murder and possession of a bladed weapon. Berlin was convicted of manslaughter, while Pritchard pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Bodrug pleaded guilty to assisting an offender.

All four await sentencing on Monday 24 June.
