How the Horror Unfolded
On 22 March 2020, the victim was held hostage in Burlington Gardens. The gang believed he owed them £600 and launched a brutal campaign of violence and threats to force payment. The man was attacked, sustaining bruises to his face and body.
That afternoon, the victim’s family received chilling phone calls demanding up to £1,000 for his release. The kidnappers even sent video evidence of the assault to coerce them into paying.
Eventually, a third party paid the ransom. The victim was freed and rushed to hospital.
Met Police Flying Squad Cracks the Case
Detectives swarmed in, using call data, CCTV, witness reports, and forensic evidence to track down the gang. They arrested Noel, King, Batson, and Harman, seizing phones linked to the crime.
Detective Constable Glenn Peach said, “The fear and panic the victim and his family endured cannot be overstated. The violent false imprisonment and threats will haunt them for a long time.”
“We hope the heavy sentences bring some comfort and justice. The courts made it clear these crimes are utterly unacceptable.”
King and Batson also faced false imprisonment charges, which will lie on file.
