Three Jailed for Stabbing Death of Teen on Southampton Driveway
Dawid Such, 19, was fatally stabbed on his Langhorn Road driveway on Sunday, 24 July last year. He collapsed in the street as shocked neighbours dialled emergency services.
Despite rushed efforts, Dawid was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at hospital.
Life Sentences for Attackers After Lengthy Trial
After over 30 hours of jury deliberation at Winchester Crown Court, three men were convicted for Dawid’s murder. Ken Mulangala, 20, from Southampton, and Cleohurtz Uchenna Onyeasi, 21, from Dartford, Kent, each received life sentences with a minimum of 23 years before parole eligibility.
Donovan Neil Thomas, 36, was handed life with at least 27 years behind bars. Meanwhile, Jordan Gregory Matthews was jailed for three years for assisting an offender.
Family Devastated at Tragic Loss
“I will never come to terms with my child’s passing,” said Dawid’s mother, Karolina Such.
“Nobody had the right to take his life. I gave him life and he was supposed to live it with us. It hurts so much walking past his empty room and bed, knowing he was recently here, enjoying life.”
Paying tribute, she added, “Dawid was a very good child – tender and kind-hearted. He had plans for the future that will never come true. My heart breaks with grief.”
Police Praise and Commitment to Tackling Violence
Detective Chief Inspector Rod Kenny, who led the investigation, called Dawid’s death a “senseless tragedy.” He thanked witnesses and responders for their bravery and praised the Major Crime Investigation Team and Crown Prosecution Service for securing justice.
“The court heard how the killers acted in a coordinated, pre-planned attack with no regard for Dawid or his loved ones,” Kenny said. “These sentences send a clear message: Hampshire & Isle of Wight police will relentlessly pursue those who inflict harm in our communities.”
Southampton District Commander Chief Inspector Marcus Kennedy condemned the “abhorrent attack” in broad daylight.
“This violence won’t be tolerated. We remain committed to working with the Violence Reduction Unit, schools, charities, and the Safe City Partnership to reduce serious violence in Southampton,” he added.
