Three Sentenced to Life for Kirkby Murder of Rikki Berry

Three men have been locked up for life over the fatal shooting of Rikki Berry in Kirkby last year. The victim, 36, was gunned down in a chilling attack that shocked the community.

The Fatal Shooting on Quarryside Drive

Emergency crews rushed to Quarryside Drive in Kirkby just after 6:30pm on 17 July 2024. Rikki Berry, known to pals as “Nuggy,” had been hit by three bullets. Despite paramedics’ efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation and Court Drama

A thorough investigation swiftly led to the arrest of three men:

  • Adam Williams, 26, from Hamblett Crescent, St Helens
  • Michael Smith, 27, of no fixed address, Kirkby
  • Connor Walsh, 26, from Simonswood Lane, Northwood, Kirkby

All were charged with murder and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. The court heard the killing was cold-blooded and pre-planned during a four-week trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

On 14 February 2025, the jury found them guilty on all counts.

Harsh Sentences Handed Down

Sentencing took place at Liverpool Crown Court on 18 February 2025:

  • Adam Williams – life in prison, minimum 31 years
  • Michael Smith – life in prison, minimum 31 years
  • Connor Walsh – life in prison, minimum 30 years

Police Slam Gun Crime

Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings offered condolences to Berry’s family and pledged to continue cracking down on gun crime. She said:

“Firstly, I would like to convey our sincere condolences to Rikki’s family, and I hope that this conviction will give his family some sense of justice against those who took his life away.”

DCI Cummings also warned offenders involved in gun and organised crime that police will keep pursuing and dismantling criminal gangs.

“There is no room for guns on the streets of Merseyside, and we will do everything within our power to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”

Call for Public Help

Police urged the public to report any suspicious activity related to firearms and organised crime. DCI Cummings stressed:

“Information from the public is vital if we are to break down the organised crime groups who bring misery to our streets.”
