Tory Councillor’s Wife Lucy Connolly Set to Be Freed After Southport Riots Tweet Sentence

Lucy Connolly’s Prison Release Imminent

Lucy Connolly, wife of a former Tory councillor, is expected to be released next month after serving time for a tweet linked to the Southport riots. The 42-year-old, who previously worked as a childminder, was jailed for 31 months at HMP Drake Hall in Staffordshire back in October 2024.

Tweet Incited Racial Hatred, Court Heard

Connolly pleaded guilty to charges relating to a tweet deemed to incite racial hatred. She has since claimed she didn’t fully understand the charge and never intended to cause harm. Despite this, the court sentenced her following the unrest in Southport.

Supporters Rally Against Sentence

Domestic groups like the Free Speech Union have rallied in her defence, protesting what they call an unfair jail term. Friends say Connolly’s release will see her celebrating with a glass of Whispering Angel – marking the end of a difficult ordeal.
