Rapist’s Jail Term Boosted After Outrage
A vile predator who brutally raped one woman and tried the same on another has had his prison sentence hiked, thanks to a push from Solicitor General Michael Ellis QC MP.
Attack in Secluded Park
Wilfred Marodza, 28, spent the evening of 19 July 2019 drinking and hassling women in a bar. After leaving in the early hours, he stalked a woman walking home, grabbed her by the neck, and dragged her to a quiet park.
He threatened to kill her, forced her to strip, then raped her. The terrified victim managed to break free and run, but Marodza chased after her.
Second Victim Escapes Horrific Assault
An hour later, Marodza targeted a second woman—a visually impaired passenger waiting at a bus stop. Offering false help to find a taxi, he grabbed her and covered her mouth.
She screamed, forcing him to flee. Police arrested Marodza at his eastbourne/" title="Eastbourne" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Eastbourne home after linking him to the scene via his work ID found at the bar.
Sentence Increased After Solicitor General’s Intervention
Originally jailed for 14 years in January 2020, Marodza’s sentence was reviewed after the Solicitor General declared it too lenient. The Court of Appeal ruled on 27 March to increase his term to 16 years with an additional 5-year extended licence.
“Marodza subjected his victims to depraved, callous attacks, resulting in serious emotional trauma. I am pleased the Court of Appeal agreed he should serve a longer sentence, and hope the increase brings some comfort to the victims,” said the Solicitor General.
