A 19-year-old thug has been slapped with an 11-year jail sentence after stabbing a man in a bold daytime assault in west Croydon.

Brazen Knife Attack Outside Croydon Newsagent

Trevon McClymont, from Edington Road, Greenwich, stabbed his victim outside a Derby Road newsagents on 8 May 2018. The victim was just going about his day when McClymont and a mate pulled up on a stolen moped.

McClymont jumped off the bike, brandished a knife, and launched a violent attack. The victim fought back but suffered a shoulder stab wound and had to be treated at a local hospital.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest and Conviction

  • Passers-by filmed the suspects fleeing on the stolen moped.
  • McClymont was arrested three weeks later at his home.
  • A knife similar to the weapon used was recovered during the search.
  • The moped rider remains at large.

Faced with overwhelming evidence, McClymont pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon at Woolwich Crown Court on 3 March.

Detective Warns Against Knife Crime

“This is a good result and proves that the Met is absolutely focused on locking up those who are violent or carry potential lethal weapons,” said Detective Sergeant Sam Bennett.

“Despite McClymont’s indifference, he will now spend a significant part of his young life behind bars. No doubt he’ll look back and realise how foolish he was carrying that blade.”

“Our victim was lucky. Sadly, others aren’t so fortunate and lose their lives to knife crime on London’s streets. We urge anyone with information about violent crime to come forward.”
