Travellers Invade Surrey Nature Reserve: 30 Caravans Cause Chaos at Tice’s Meadow
Travellers have stormed Tice’s Meadow, a freshly opened nature reserve on the old Farnham Quarry site, nestled between Badshot Lea and Tongham on Aldershot’s southern edge.
Shock rippled through the local community yesterday morning (Wednesday, November 9) as 30 caravans rolled in and took over the peaceful reserve.
Volunteer Left Helpless as Police Turn Blind Eye
Richard Horton, a volunteer at Tice’s Meadow, revealed the grim reality. “They broke in around 10am yesterday. The police said it’s up to me to sort it out — they don’t want to get involved,” he told reporters.
Rubbish and fly-tipping have already begun piling up. “They’ve dumped hardcore at the edge of the gated area, and there’s more waste scattered around. I came down this morning to take pictures,” added Horton.
Breaking Locks and Barking Dogs: How Travellers Forced Entry
- The travellers smashed locks and replaced them with their own padlocks.
- They damaged a metal gate to get in.
- Guard dogs bark fiercely to warn off approaching vehicles.
Despite the damage, the travellers argue there’s nowhere else to stop. They claim their stay is only temporary — “a few days” — citing a shortage of legal stopping sites.
Legal Battle Looms Over Surrey Reserve Takeover
Horton says the only solution is legal action. “I’m left with no choice but to take the matter to court,” he warned.
As tensions rise, locals hope for a swift resolution to reclaim their cherished green space from the caravan invasion.
