Nottinghamshire Police Celebrate Youth at Live Our Best Life Awards 2023

Nottinghamshire Police hosted the dazzling Live Our Best Life Awards 2023 on Friday, 21 April, at the Village Hotel in Chilwell. The night was packed with outstanding performances and heartwarming stories showcasing why these young stars were honoured.

Young Heroes Shine Bright

The third year running, the awards spotlighted youngsters aged 8 to 18 who have smashed adversity, shown selflessness, or inspired their communities. Winners and runners-up were recognised for their resilience, talent, and courage.

The ceremony took place alongside the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation, featuring a special video message from Stephen’s mother, Baroness Lawrence, expressing her support for the event.

Record Nominations and Stellar Winners

This year saw the highest number of nominations ever. Six winners and six runners-up received trophies and gifts to celebrate their hard work and achievements. Here are the headline winners:

  • Rising Above Adversity Award: Josie-Leigh Wightman, 12, an inspiring young star overcoming tough circumstances.
  • Lyrico Steede Award: Jahlil Kumar, 15, who’s made major progress and motivates others towards positive life choices.
  • Young Performer of the Year: Charnae Samuels-Stevenson, 17, a multi-talented artist excelling in singing, rapping, dancing, and acting.
  • Young Leader of the Year: Zeko Smith, 12, a role model leading peers through sport, study, and youth work.
  • Bringing People Together Award: Joel Bailey, 18, dedicated to uniting the community and fighting hate and racism.
  • Young Inspiration Award: Olivia Waddley, 16, recognised for her resilience, selflessness, and inspirational actions.

Organiser Praises ‘Electric’ Atmosphere

Romel Davis, youth outreach worker and founder of the awards from Nottinghamshire Police, beamed with pride. “This year’s ceremony was on another level,” he said. “We’ve smashed last year’s event. The feedback has been incredible — many said it was the best night of their lives. The energy was electric!”

“Meeting so many amazing young people and highlighting their achievements makes my job truly special. We’re passionate about supporting Nottinghamshire’s youth, and these awards spotlight the fantastic work happening across the county.”
