Burglar Busted: Liverpool Duo Jailed for Deal Break-Ins
Ellis McKeown, 24, and Marcus Jones, 20, both from Liverpool, have been locked up after a daring burglary spree in Deal, Kent. The pair targeted homes and swiped vehicles in a crime wave uncovered by Kent Police’s Chief Constable’s Crime Squad.
Raid in the Early Hours
On 18 June 2021, a Deal resident spotted intruders lurking in her driveway around 4.30am. At the same time, attempts were made to break into a nearby house. The crooks then smashed their way into a Sholden property, stealing keys to three vehicles before making off with them.
High-Speed Hunt Ends in Fairlight
Kent Police launched a full-scale investigation, tracking the stolen cars heading towards East Sussex. Two days later, Sussex Police spotted one vehicle in Fairlight sporting fake number plates. CCTV footage showed four suspects, two of whom were recognised by officers as McKeown and Jones from previous run-ins.
Justice Served
- Ellis McKeown was jailed for two and a half years at Canterbury Crown Court on 4 March 2022. His sentence also included six months for dangerous driving in the West Midlands.
- Marcus Jones received a 20-month sentence, suspended for two years.
- Both were arrested months after the crime – Jones in Liverpool, McKeown in Wolverhampton.
Kent Police Detective Sergeant Jay Robinson said: “Burglaries shake people’s sense of safety and cause huge inconvenience. We’re committed to hunting down offenders and bringing them to justice. I hope these sentences deter others from victimising our communities.”
