A 64-year-old local man has been arrested by Sussex Police in connection with a terrifying dog attack that injured two young children at Eastbourne Beach on May 27. The incident happened near Holywell Café on King Edwards Parade just after 10:20am and involved a dog believed to be a Rottweiler.

CCTV Leads to Arrest After Public Appeal

Following the shocking attack, police released CCTV footage urging the public to help identify the suspect. Their appeal paid off when recent information pointed to a local man as the owner of the dangerously out-of-control dog.

“This incident was reported to us in May, and following our public appeal, we recently received information identifying the person in the CCTV footage,” said Eastbourne District Commander Chief Inspector Di Lewis. “We have now arrested a 64-year-old local man, who has been bailed pending further investigation.”

Police Thank Public & Urge Calm

Chief Inspector Lewis also thanked the community for their support and warned against speculation on social media as the investigation continues. Anyone with more information is urged to contact Sussex Police online, quoting reference number 404 from 27/05/2024.
