Two Coventry Teens Convicted of Murder in Deadly Gang Clash

Jaydon James: A Life Cut Tragically Short

Two killers from Coventry have been found guilty of murdering 16-year-old Jaydon James. Jaydon, from Wood End, was caught up in a brutal postcode gang war that has plagued the city’s streets for years. Just days after his 16th birthday, this promising teenager was stabbed to death – a victim of senseless violence between rival gangs.

Chased and Stabbed on Hillmorton Road

On the night of 24 November 2018, Jaydon was out with friends at a local bowling alley. CCTV footage later revealed a black Peugeot suddenly pulling up on Hillmorton Road. Its passengers jumped out and gave chase. Jaydon tried to escape down a church driveway but was caught and stabbed in the back.

Despite staggering to the church’s rear car park, Jaydon succumbed to his injuries. Two of his friends were also stabbed but survived. A passerby rushed to help until paramedics arrived, but it was too late for Jaydon. His devastated family – mother, brother, sister, grandparents and uncles – were left mourning a life shattered.

Fear Before the Fatal Night

Weeks earlier, Jaydon told his mother he feared gang members wanted to attack him. Days later, he was punched and robbed of his coat and phone. Detectives pieced together extensive CCTV and mobile phone data to track the movements of Jaydon and his killers on that fatal night.

Convictions Secured After Chilling CCTV Evidence

Fuel station CCTV on Sewell Highway showed 16-year-old Frank Kenfack in the Peugeot, carrying what officers believe was the murder weapon hidden under his jacket. Police linked him to two other occupants: 16-year-old Bongani Ngozi and 19-year-old Abdi Hussein Abdi.

All three were arrested and charged with murder. Today, Kenfack and Abdi were found guilty of Jaydon’s murder and two counts of wounding with intent. Bongani Ngozi was cleared.

Detective Inspector Stuart Mobberley said: “This was a young boy, just 11 days after his 16th birthday, whose life was so cruelly taken away. There are no words to comfort his mother and the wider community, but I hope this conviction helps them begin to heal.”

“Jaydon wasn’t targeted specifically. He was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. His killers were out for revenge.”

Jaydon’s grandmother called him a “cheeky charmer” who could “always wrap me around his finger.” She said: “My grandson had the biggest heart and would do almost anything for anyone who needed help.”

His mother reflected on the life stolen from her son known affectionately as JJ or Juie:

“My son didn’t get to finish his GCSEs or go to his prom. I won’t see him grow into a man, have a career or start a family. I won’t see his special milestone birthdays or the day he brings home someone to marry. I’ve lost not just my son but the future we dreamed of.”

Frank Kenfack, 18, of no fixed address, and Abdi Hussein Abdi, 21, from Bell Green, Coventry, face sentencing on 11 November.
