Life Behind Bars for Kingston Murder Duo

Two men have been locked up for life over the brutal murder of Farhad Khalili in Kingston. Sean Deery, 28, and Sebastian Niven, 18, were found guilty at the Old Bailey last December and sentenced on Monday, 19 February.

Ambush on Surbiton Crescent

The court heard how Farhad Khalili was viciously attacked around 7pm on 15 December 2021 as he walked along Surbiton Crescent. Deery and Niven ambushed him, stabbing him multiple times. Despite emergency crews rushing to the scene, Farhad sadly died there and then.

Caught on CCTV, Caught at Home

  • CCTV quickly identified Deery and Niven as the attackers.
  • Deery was initially detained over a nearby robbery by mistake.
  • Niven fled but was arrested at his home the following day.
  • Blood-stained clothes linked Niven directly to the assault.

Both men refused to cooperate during police interviews, but overwhelming evidence secured their murder convictions.

Detective Praises Swift Justice

“The ferocity and intent displayed by Deery and Niven resulted in tragic consequences,” said Detective Inspector Jim Barry from the Specialist Crime Command. “Thanks to swift police action and local community support, the suspects were quickly identified and caught.”

Deery was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 25 years. Niven received life with at least 14 years behind bars. Detective Barry added, “I hope these sentences bring some comfort to Farhad’s family and friends as they grieve.”
